TITHONIA

These gorgeous orange flowers (also called Mexican Sunflowers) have a special spot in my garden every summer. They grow up to 8’ tall and are particularly attractive to hummingbirds and bees. I look forward to them as snow begins to melt and just a whisper of spring is in the air... and out come the TITHONIA seeds!

Getting to this painting was a lengthy process of combining flowers from different areas in my garden into this composition, drawing out the design, then on to paint.

I particularly like the way the hard shape of the 'window' in the background provides contrast to the soft shapes of the petals.
